Powerline Networking

Problem: computer(s) are located in one end of the house and user is located in other end of house, too far away to run an ethernet cable and wireless signal so poor as to be unusable. OR the house is solidly built & wireless signals are blocked by thick stone walls.
Solution: use Powerline Networking, which plugs into your ethernet router and the electrical wall sockets and "simply" sends your data through the electrical supply.
Plus points: VERY VERY EASY to install, just connect the 1st plug to the ethernet port in the router and plug in, then connect the 2nd plug to the pc/laptop using ethernet cable and plug in. Network connected!
ALSO: Very Very Easy to expand & upgrade - add a wireless point anywhere there is a plug. The wireless powerline network plug also has an ethernet socket to connect to the pc/laptop via cable and use the wireless option with other devices.

www.solwise.co.uk have all the details and kit required for networking, audio and video streaming, and even ip webcams for security etc. There's a link on the weblinks bottom right of the blog. B-)
